Home renewal

California homeowners renewal checklist

A renewal is a useful time to check whether property facts, limits, deductibles, endorsements, discounts, and household needs still match reality.

Gather the current policy first

Locate the declarations page and endorsements, then note the renewal date and any carrier communications. Do not email a full policy through an unsecured first-contact form.

  • Current dwelling and other-structure limits.
  • Personal property, loss-of-use, liability, and medical-payments limits.
  • Deductibles and important endorsements.
  • Mortgagee and named-insured information that may need correction.

Update the property story

Prepare dates and general information for roof, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mitigation, occupancy, home business, rentals, major renovations, and claims. The licensed professional or carrier determines what is required and how it affects eligibility.

Compare like with like

A lower premium can reflect different limits, deductibles, exclusions, settlement terms, or endorsements. Ask for a side-by-side explanation before treating two options as equivalent.

Sources and review standard

This is general educational information, not a quote, policy, coverage opinion, application, legal advice, or financial advice. Only the issued policy and endorsements define coverage.
